Rain or Shine Anthem’s 1st Ever Animal Extravaganza and Adopt-a-ThonWill Happen This Saturday February 26th

Mark your calendar and pack up the family (pets too) for a day long trip to Anthem this Sat, Feb 26th. Why? This day of celebration, adoption, and family fun is FREE to attend and guaranteed to excite pet lovers of all ages. The immediate goals of this event: 1) Adoptions of Homeless Pets, 2) Enhanced Awareness of Pet Care, Health and Activities, 3) Celebration and Appreciation for all Companion Animals.

Event Location: Anthem Community Park, Anthem AZ Event Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Adopt-a-thon: 35 animal rescue organizations will be on hand with hundreds of healthy, adoptable purebred and mixed breed dogs, cats, bunnies, even rats! Knowledgeable rescue staff and volunteers will assist adoptive families in choosing the perfect companion pet.

Demonstrations: To see companion pets and their human friends in action, come see the Dog Agility demonstration (Contact Zonies), Dog Freestyle Dancing (AZ Canine Freestylers) show, Pet Obedience & Trick Training Demo (Pet Behavior Solutions), Pet Massage (Pawsitive Touch), Home Grooming (It’s A Ruff Life), and Flyball (Howlin’ To Run). More than a dozen pet related vendors will also be on site to share their products and business expertise.

Contests and Raffle: Over $ 1,000 in valuable prizes will be raffled off to event attendees. All proceeds benefit the Pets911 Auxiliary Emergency Medical Fund, a special fund established solely to pay for life saving surgeries and medical procedures for rescued animals. Other Event Contests Include: “Pet With The Best Voice”, “Pet Owner Look-Alike Contest”, “Fluffiest/Hairiest Pet Contest”, “Pet With The Waggiest Tail” and “Pet With The Most Spots Or Stripes”. (Fact: In 2004 the Pets911 Auxiliary raised more than $ 250,000 for local rescues and shelters.)

Special donation drop off: The group’s sponsors are encouraging everyone… even those who do not adopt… to donate in the form of unopened bags of high quality dog and cat food in exchange for a free raffle ticket! This food will be distributed to rescue organizations throughout Maricopa County. Also welcome are new or gently used blankets, towels, beds and other pet necessities.   Of course, if you bring your dog with you to the event, make sure you know how you will pick up dog poop if the needed.

Rain or shine: In a recent interview, event coordinator Eileen Proctor of “It’s A Ruff Life” said “we are doing this event rain or shine”. Bari Mears of Pets911 Auxiliary “our last adoption event scheduled for Feb 12th was cancelled due to the rain and the pets awaiting homes are the one’s who lost out. Our team of volunteers is ready to get wet in an effort to place these animals in lifelong homes… weather will be no match, this show will go on” said Mears.
